Virtualization
Installing various kinds of software on my winXP laptop turned my "All Programs" section into a major head ache. Also, testing different software on windows was not useful as most production environments move to Linux. This lead me to turn to the concept of Virtual Machines and the ability to have Linux VM's running on my windows XP box. Here are some excellent sites to learn more:
